This story focuses on Nash (the unforgiving brother) and Kelly (Tess's half-sister) from "Serendipity." Definitely read "Serendipity" first or a lot of the relationships loses significance.
Basically three months ago Kelly dumps her troublesome teenage sister, Tess, into the lap of Ethan (Nashs older brother). I had a real problem with this in the last book because Kelly came off as really heartless and irresponsible. In this book Phillips prefaced that Kelly had checked with family friend and lawyer, Richard, first before dumping Tess. It still doesnt make Kelly too great in my view but in this book she is seen as someone who has been responsible for Tess ever since Kelly was a teen.
Tess is a result of an affair Kellys very selfish mother had with the father of Ethan, Nash, and Dare. So thats the backstory of how all the characters are related. Fast forward to three months later. Tess has adjusted well with Ethan and Faith. Nash still hates Ethan for abandoning him and Dare to foster care when their parents die. And there is where Destiny starts.
Overall it was better than the first book. It was smoother and I thought Nashs character did have some major growth which was nice. If you put aside what Kelly did in the first book, you can really cheer for her character. In the backcover, it makes it sound like she had some horrible secret she kept from Nash which would make him hate her but it really wasnt the case. I thought it would be something terrible but really not a big deal at all. Some good dialogue and interesting story plotlines.
Quick, easy read. Good closure but a weak lead-into Dare's story.
