Fans of C.J. Box and the Joe Pickett series will enjoy this series I ran across by Alice Henderson, who herself is a wildlife biologist, and brings reality to this series.

Alex Carter is a badass, and finds pleasure in living in the wild on her own, helping to track and save endangered species of animals. Spending weeks or months alone in the wilderness, she depends on her survival skills, but in addition, goes up against the bad guys. Lots of intrigue and mystery when she's threatened by locals trying to force her to leave her new assignment.

In the first book of the series, Alex is studying wolverines at a wildlife sanctuary in Montana. Striving to save this endangered species, she comes up against illegal operations in the wilderness, threatening to thwart her efforts, and putting her life in peril. And she only has her wits and strength to save herself and the wolverines.

What I really liked about this series also, is at the end of each book, the author talks about the endangered species of the book, the reality of their survival currently, and what those of us who care can do to help. Plus actually tells exactly what can be done and how.

If you are in a book club, I'd highly recommend this series for discussion. There are 3 books in the series so far, and I hope more to come.
