Anita Blake is a short, armed, scared, vampire executioner, who also dates a werewolf, a vampire and other men. You have to have an open mind to enjoy this series of books, which can get very descriptive in the violence department (I have to sometimes skip those pages) and quite yummy in the sex details. All of her new books now are issued first in hardcover because she has a legion of fans, then in 10 months in paperback.
Laurel K Hamilton writes 2 different series that she rotates, this one about Anita, and the other about a half breed Fairy Princess named Merry, who also has multiple sex partners (like Anita). I don't understand how the immortals are not bored out of their minds, as many have little to nothing to do, and wish some of the vampires sang, or painted or wrote books, but oh well..
Both series have wonderful descriptive details that keep the mind engaged in the story and quite sorry when the last page is turned. Waiting months and months and months for the next installation is more like a countdown, and I always order her new books in advance, and never lend them out as they might not come back.
Menopause allows me to happily re-read every book, having forgotten all kinds of stuff I can appreciate over and over again.
