Although I enjoyed LEFT AT THE ALTAR (the first novel in this series), I delayed reading this book because of the subject matter. I have zero interest in suffragettes and "modern women" in western stories. However, it was Christmas and the stores were closed. I needed something to read.

Another problem with this story is that Amanda Lockwood runs for sheriff -- and wins. She did not campaign and the field was crowded with men candidates. Of course, women could not vote and most women of the town were against a woman even trying for the position. So, how did she win? She also won without a runoff! Go figure.

However, the story grows on the reader. Amanda Lockwood is set in her ways but she cares about her community. This story is pretty zany -- complete with an all-woman posse and a deputy sheriff named Scooter. I found myself turning the pages to find out how the author got Amanda out of one scrape after another.
