Four main characters revolve around a single infant in a bid for control. Frederick and Elizabeth and their son, Patrick, wish to control Patrick's wife and her baby. Patrick is spoiled and, while not uncaring, lets his parents control his life and home. Ruth is spineless and naive. Elizabeth especially comes off as a slimy, manipulating mother-in-law, under the guise of her cheerful helpfulness. The ending is a complete surprise and a shock! No spoilers here! D.
