Granted, I am a good twenty-five years older than the age group this series was meant for, but I must admit I did enjoy it! It was an easy read, containing a lot of emotional expense, but not a whole lot of action until the end. While I really wasn't "wowed" by this one, I can understand the appeal to the younger crowd...sort of a teen version of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles from years ago, but definitely much milder as far as violence and eroticism is concerned. As a parent, I would have no problem letting a teen or even "tween" daughter read this - it is mystical, but still innocent. No real gore or violence at all.
For me, as an "old lady", I have to say I the author captured the "new teen in school" feel very well - and I liked being reminded of what it was to be a teenager, although my life wasn't nearly as exciting as Bella's! :) Overall, a very entertaining read, but certainly lacking the more adult sophistication of Anne Rice, whom I love. I certainly liked this enough to go forward with the rest of the series, although I'm not expecting to be completely impressed...I do feel I'll be entertained!
And I repeat...I AM old! I admit it.
