The Eternal Wonder read like a philosophical character study.
You meet Rann at the very beginning of his life, literally while still in the womb. So at first I was curious...but at last I was scratching my head, wondering whether or not the great Pearl S. Buck really wrote this. I have serious doubts.
Rann's story lacked focus and, at times, bordered on the elementary. Yes, he's a boy genius, but it wasn't explored in a very engaging way; I could put the book down quite easily and just about forget to pick it back up again. Rann had an interesting relationship with his father and there were a few somewhat humorous moments, but overall, this book was meh and I couldn't recommend it.
