The New York Times book review gives an excellent and accurate description of the book's contents. I enjoyed it very much and learned some things about life in Scotland, but the way it sort of fizzled out at the end was disappointing. I wanted to know more clearly that the author was heading toward a decision, that she did make it, and the results. (I'm being vague here so as not to give too much away.) While the episode about the friend who stayed with them near the end was lively and entertaining, you suddenly come to the last page and, "Whaa...? Is that IT?" It was almost as if the author suddenly decided, "Oh, enough of this book! I have other things to do," and just stopped writing.
