It's about time a woman wrote a book about deer hunting. Etling certainly has the background to know what she's talking about in this volume. She is (or was at the time of printing) the field editor of both BUCKMASTERS and PETERSEN'S BOWHUNTER magazines. She has hunted deer across North America.

She is that best-of-all-hunters: someone who shares the expertise of other hunters (Everything isn't "Me, me and me"). There are many photos (b & w) that often illustrate concepts she's trying to share.

She explains things well and then tells you what has worked for her and others. I also like the fact that she's savvy about what biologists are learning about deer (see p. 70 regarding "cultural knowledge" of deer and how it affects your abilities in nabbing deer).

If you are a newbie, the guide to whitetail body language is worth your time (chapter 5). Topics: basic antler rattling, advanced antler rattling, using decoys, the truth about mock scrapes, setups that work, etc.
