Cinder is a cyborg. She is considered a second-class citizen by the people of New Beijing and by her own family. She is a skilled mechanic who knows how to fix just about anything. One day Prince Kai approaches her stall in the market and asks her to fix his droid. He told Cinder that his droid contains information that could fall into the wrong hands. Prince Kai is counting on her to fix the droid and get it back to him quickly. As Cinder works on the droid, her stepsister Peonie becomes sick with the deadly plague. Her stepmother blames Cinder for Peonie's illness and volunteers Cinder for plague research. That is something no one has survived.

This is a unique retelling of Cinderella. It's set over 100 years after the 4th World War. There is a plague that was brought to earth by the Lunar people (who live on the moon). It has killed many people. So far there is no cure. There is also the evil Lunar Queen who has designs on Prince Kai.

I really liked Cinder. She is smart and talented. She wants to get out from under her stepmother's thumb; but knows she will send the police after her. She is also attracted to the Prince; but knows he will not be interested in her when he learns that she is a cyborg.

I'm not a big fan of dystopian or futuristic stories. The worldbuilding was interesting, but I didn't like the cliffhanger ending of this book at all. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
