I love Maggie Shayne's books but this one didn't work for me . It felt like the old TV show Dark Angel with Jessica Alba. The book involves around a secret government compound that brainwashes and trains special children to be super soldiers. I liked the story line of the book but didn't like the relationship of the characters. The heroine was a strong willed , firce and strong female who was able to resited brainwashing and inspired a small up rising and Shayne paired her with who felt like your classic damsel in distress persona in male form. The hero had little to no comsence and and the nativity of a small child . Half the time I wanted to smack him upside his head to knock some sence into him. I couldn't understand who the hero was able to resit brainwashing and elude the angency for as long as him did .
