The description of this book given in the info is quite accurate. I found myself quite irritated on behalf of Ryder, the pianist who is the subject of the book. I also found myself rather irritated at Ryder for not standing up for himself at times. He does seem to get the import of many of the requests made to his time by others. The Unconsoled has an almost surreal quality and I found myself wondering at times about the motives of the townspeople and rightly so. I think that many will find themselves seeing their very own provinces in this unnamed city and its inhabitants. Overall a good read but certainly not my favourite Ishiguro work.
