Jane True is a 20-something Mainiac living with and caring for her father with heart disease and working at the local bookstore run by an adorable lesbian couple who are also her best friends. Everyone in the town basically thinks she's crazy, and Jane thinks they might be right, until some mysterious people show up and reveal to her that she's half-selkie. As all lovers of paranormal romance know, that's just the beginning of the shit in Jane's life hitting the fan.

The character of Jane True is beautifully drawn and unique in the world of paranormal romance. She's intelligent, caring, and has a biting old-school yankee sense of humor. The supe world Peeler creates is unique enough from everyone else's without being confusing or just unbelievable. The sex scenes though are....not sexy, largely because Jane's fella whines about having to use a condom every time. Leaves one wondering why girlfriend is settling for him. (Ok, she had been celibate for 8 years. That may have something to do with it). I really hope Jane tosses him over very quickly in the next book, because she deserves better, and this being a romance novel, the better one is right under her nose.
