At my volunteer job at a local, non-profit, thrift store, I sort and shelve books people donate. As a result, a lot of autobiographies (ABs) pass through my hands. Many of these ABs make you wonder why they were even written. Why is it that some people think they are so important they need to write a book about what they think and feel, how their parents mistreated them, their sex lives, and how other people are such jerks compared to them?
For example, we get a lot of copies of Bill Clinton's "My Lie" donated and I think it is because after 50 pages of this 1,000+ page book, people are disgusted with themselves for spending money to read about the poster boy for the "MeToo" movement. And.... oh, wait a minute, the title of his book is "My Life," and that's even worse. Did he choose that title because he believes no one else's life is as important as his? Then there are the ABs of people I've never even heard of. For example, some ABs are written by people who were on a reality show which didn't even last one season and they were kicked off it after the second episode. You gotta wonder.
Which is why it was so rewarding to read a totally unpretentious autobiography written by a great American legend. Of course, I'm talking about Bigfoot's autobiography, "In Me Own Words," which spent almost seven minutes on the New York Times' Best Seller list, a new record. It grabbed me from the start, as I literally could not put the book down. I had to read it straight through to the end, which didn't take as long as you might think as it is only 36 pages long and each page is covered with illustrations. I learned so much about him. For example, did you know he was the Production Advisor for "Harry and The Hendersons"? Now I know why I enjoyed that movie so much. Highly recommended!
