The things that shouldn't happen to a vet happened to young James Herriot amidst some memorable characters, both animal and human, in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales--a delightful collection of stories. Herriot's easy and at times excruciatingly funny case history narratives rate as country classics, and he throws in a stumbling, awkward courtship for good measure.
