Heard about Oscar many years ago when he became a national news story. I've shared my home with cats for 40+ years. So, I was looking forward to reading this book. After finishing it, I read the reviews on this site and also some of the many reviews on Amazon. Many of the three-star Amazon reviews noted that the book was more about the back stories of the residents that Oscar visited rather than about Oscar. I agree with that viewpoint, which is why I'm giving the book only three stars. My mom was in her mid-80s when she was diagnosed with dementia (she died in her sleep about three years later). My sister was diagnosed with dementia three years ago at age 68 and has been in a group home ever since. She's still alive but has gone downhill (memory wise) fast. For more than a year now she no longer knows who I am and is usually "not present" when I visit her. So, some of the things the author talked about were things that I found relevant.
