Vivid descriptions of the Alhambra palace, the surrounding countryside, and the tales and legends of the Moorish occupation and expulsion will enchant you. For me, they conjure up visions of the Poem of El Cid, of Bulwer Lyttons Leila: The Siege of Grenada; of C. S. Foresters The Gun; of the days of Don Quixote and Gil Blas. This is truly an American masterpiece of travel, history, and legend in a fascinating little package.
