As always, Kinley MacGregor has written a terrific book. Knight of Darkness picks up (sorta) where Sword of Darkness left off with Morgen and her minions still trying to bring down Avalon and overtake the world with evil. BUT...it's not necessary to have read Sword of Darkness to understand what's going on here. Aside from a few references to characters from the first book, the plot of Knight doesn't hinge on what readers already know from Sword.
