I found this book to very pretty intriguing, as the main character fights to become her own person in 1930's Newcastle, England, in an era when those of Irish descent had very few paths open to them. The start of WWII provided the ultimate "out" for Daisy as she joined the WAAFs and became a Radio Tower Operator, or Air Controller as we know them today, in many cases attempting the guide in badly injured planes and crews. Three-quarters of the book covers Daisy's war years, and then the next 35 or so years are compressed into the ending, which was the one aspect I found a little jarring. Overall though it was a very enjoyable book with an involving main character. Good historical fiction with just a touch of romance.
