This book did not hold my interest and I set it aside about a quarter of the way through. I didn't believe in any of the characters, and the language and attitudes (whisky served on trays by footmen at at ball in 1816?) seemed too modern to me. I thought the author had a pleasant style, but the story she told seemed too familiar and I couldn't stay with it just for the style alone.
