Donna W. reviewed A day to feed a child's thoughts on
Helpful Score: 4
My mother bought this book for me 12 years ago after I had my first son. The moment I opened the book and saw the illustrations I was almost swept away with my own childhood memories. The simple text sets up the reader to really experience the beautiful illustrations, and each page vividly depicts the simple (and sometimes alarming!) discoveries of a young child experiencing the joys of a snowy day. A melancholy moment at the end turns into a moment of excitement and possibility.
We read it many times when my children were young, and I just took it out to read to my 3 year old nephew. I love the quietness of the book - it also made me think about how many new experience my children had, and how a child takes those experiences and thinks about them, organizes them, and then makes them part of their "self". I have to admit, this book will never end up on my PBS bookshelf - I'm saving it to read to my grandchildren!
