An OK read, but I thought it was too long with rambling passages that could have been cut (the long chase in the carriages, for instance.) The plot was a bit outlandish and I never enjoy stories with vast conspiracies at work. Plus I thought the main character was a bit of a fool. The book ends in a psuedo-cliff hanger, setting you up for a continuation, but it doesn't appear one exists so there are questions left unanswered. Not a bad read, but not that great (for a great mystery with supernatural aspects and possible murders, try Dorothy MacArdle's The Uninvited.)
