I've read her before, with ambivilence, but this one grabbed me. And it's the 2nd in a series! She really did the back story well, without the usual 'here's what happened last week' approach.
This follows Akin, who looks human, but isn't. His feelings and interactions with humans and aliens are finely protrayed and there's a story too.
