Firefighters Jessica Fury and Quaid Legend are newlyweds who are happy to be working on the same team. When a warehouse chemical fire leaves Quaid dead and the other team members with paranormal abilities, Jessica doesn't know how to deal. Five years later she is finally getting her life together when her friends tell her that they believe Quaid is still alive. They have learned that a man who is called "Q" has been held prisoner at a Government owned facility. He has developed various paranormal abilities that the government is using for their own ends. Q has no memory of his past. The team has decided to rescue Q and bring him back to Jessica.
This is the third book in Joan Swan's Phoenix Rising series. If you haven't read the previous books in the series, do not start with this one. The author only gives the backstory in little pieces. Someone who has not read the previous books would be lost.
Like the other books in the series, this story has a good balance of romance and suspense. I liked Quaid. He was so lost and didn't know who he could trust. All he asked is that people not keep information from him. Of course, Jessica and the team decide they can't tell him certain facts for his own good. That drove me crazy. There was a lot of angst and emotion in this romance. Sometimes I wanted to just flip past this portion of the story and get back to the suspense.
The suspense story was fast moving. Some of our questions were answered. Other questions were left hanging for the next and final book in the series. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
