Not a bad book, all in all. I had quibbles along the way, but enjoyed the writing and the story it had to tell. Paradiz tells fairy tales and discusses their cultural meaning of their time while telling the story of the Grimm brothers and their legendary work, which happned before, during, the after the Napoleonic wars. I found the historical context the best part, and enjoyed the retelling of tales and their cultural context, next.
The discussion of womens' issues and then the issue of those extra sons who had no inheritance by the standards of the time, those were interesting as well. Overall, worth the read.
