ISBN 0307020371 - The Disney adaptation of Dodie Smith's book is one of the better Disney/Golden Book collaborations I've read recently. Although much of the original tale, and even much of the movie's details, is left out the story in this edition hits all the necessary points to tell a story that flows.

Pongo and Perdita are the happy parents of 15 puppies until one day when all fifteen of their babies are stolen! People have put the word out in the paper, but the dogs don't think it's enough, so they use the Twilight Bark, spreading the word among dogs. Colonel and his cat friend, Sergeant Tibs, hear the news and remember hearing puppies at the De Vil mansion; they set off to investigate. When they get there, they find puppies. Not fifteen puppies â" ninety nine puppies! Will Pongo and Perdita get there before Cruella and her helpers make spotted coats of the pack of puppies? And, if they do, what in the world are they going to do with ninety nine puppies?!

Despite the plan to make coats out of the puppies, the story is still cute. The race to save the puppies is exciting and kids always love that Cruella is outsmarted. The illustrations are great, especially the ones with lots of puppies in them. The ending, of course, is the dream of every dog loving kid in the world - but if you don't know what it is, you'll have to read it to find out. It's worth it.
