I know little about this time and place in history. But that was Ms. Lee's reason for writing the book, because it is so little known. Her writing was very illuminating. There were times when she skipped a couple of years with just a reference to someone having died during that time, and then she almost lost me at the end, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
