Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt is fighting for custody of his young daughter. Following the death of his wife four years ago he went off the deep end and didn't feel he could take care of her properly. She's been living with his wife's parents ever since. But her grandparents don't want to give her up.

Now that he's on the right track again, it's up to Judge Holly Spencer to decide whether to grant custody to Crawford. During the court hearing, a masked man breaks into the courtroom brandishing a gun and taking aim at the judge. Thanks to Crawford's quick reflexes, he shoves her out of the way and saves her life.

Authorities apprehend the wrong man who is killed by SWAT. The real gunman remains unidentified and on the loose. The question remains ... was he after the judge, or was Crawford the intended target?

This is a classic Sandra Brown novel ... fast-paced, lots of action...and of course, romance. Crawford and the Judge have a huge attraction to each other, but there are lots of obstacles to overcome.

The characters come across as very believable, even the secondary characters are interesting in how they relate to the main ones. No surprise in that it was well-written.

The only thing I felt a little lacking in a Sandra Brown novel is that normally with her books there is a twist and a turn that leaves you a little breathless. There was no secret to who the 'bad guy' was and the only surprise is one that made very little difference to the story.

But .. it's still a good read and fans of Sandra Brown will love it!
