While an interesting series, I'm not so excited reading about J.W.'s cooking exploits, which seem to take up more space in each book. That, and his more graphic descriptions of love making with Zoe. Hey, if J.W. really loved Zoe, would he talk about their love making? :-)
I also find it interesting J.W. often keeps back some aspects of the crime, as in not telling the authorities or the family the entire story.
As a side note: In this book, Craig make a serious mistake in handgun safety.
On page 36, J.W. goes to Manny's house to get a gun to use on his special assignment. Craig depicts Manny as all-knowledgeable about guns. When Manny takes J.W. to the range, he shows him how to load the automatic, as J.W. uses a revolver, then Manny loads a clip into the gun and "...with a strong emphasis on safety, then put the gun on the table."
Hopefully, the barrel is pointed downrange. Or, hopefully maybe not. As this gun expert has already "...jacked a round into the firing chamber." Manny then goes down range---only 25 yards---to set up the targets. But there is a loaded pistol laying on the table also pointing downrange! It doesn't matter if the safety is on, as this is a serious safety violation.
I was OIC/Range Safety Office numerous times while I was in the Marines. If I had done this stupid sequence of events even once, my next job would have been issuing sports equipment as the base Special Services Officer.
