Victoria in the Wings (Georgian Saga, Bk 11)

Despite the title, Victoria does not feature prominently in this novel.

King George III is mad and locked away at Windsor, his son, the aging Regent (future George IV) is estranged from his wife and has no heir. The other Princes must give up their mistresses to marry an appropriate wife and sire offspring in order to ensure the Hanoverian line of Kings continues.

The drama is set between England and Germany as the Princes head to the 'homeland' to woo the women they will eventually marry. There's a fair bit infighting amongst the myriad brothers (York, Kent, Clarence, Cumberland) and their wives, including a plot to declare William insane like his father and another to murder the little Princess at Kensington (Victoria).

The writing is a bit uneven and sluggish at points, but all in all and interesting read into a period of the English monarchy which I knew little about. Once again Plaidy takes history and makes it fun to learn.
