I enjoyed this book, haven't made any of the recipes yet, but I've read through them all and they seem reasonable enough to make. I might have to search out some of the island-specific spice blends that she mentions, though. Most of the recipes seem easy enough to make, providing you have a decent produce department at your grocery.
As far as the book itself, the writing is very entertaining, but it is more a collection of "scenes" from the islands, all revolving around food or looking for food, or making food, and not deep or moving. You don't get to know the people mentioned in the book beyond the surface, in other words. And you are not going to gain any deep insight into the Caribbean. But the surface was enough to hold my interest throughout the book.
