Former U.S. Marshal Frank Daggett has lived for years with but one purpose in mind. From town to town and over many miles of terrain, the tenacious and determined lawman has stayed on the trail of the infamous Pierre Le Blanc. Arriving in Litchfield, Minnesota and feeling that he is closing in his quarry, Frank Daggett is unaware that Pierre Le Blanc has already been captured and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Having come to the end of his quest, Daggett decides to remain in Litchfield. Although tired of traveling, his decision to stay might also have much to do with the lovely young Gerda Nilsson.

Gerda also feels a strong attraction for Frank, but is tortured by nagging doubts concerning his spiritual condition. Is there a happy future awaiting the two or will Gerda ultimately be forced to make a very painful decision?
