The tale begins as the reader discovers that Nox, incarnation of Night, has taken Orlene's baby. To save him she must obtain certain items from each Incarnation. It is a difficult journey for the three primary characters.
Orlene and Jolie are ghosts who take over a human teenager when needed as they seek the items. Jolie had been assigned to rehabilitate Vita, a teenage runaway who left home because her father raped her. She was recruited by a pimp who introduced her to drugs. Vita is Basically a good person who fell into dangerous circumstances.
This book is No. 7 of 8, in the Incarnations of Immortality Series. Unfinished pieces from previous volumes are wrapped up. The author further discusses world issues on which he feels strongly.
