Madison Reynolds returned home to central Texas and Granny Bert after her husband died. She has a pair of twins, Blake and Bethani. Blake has adjusted to the move and new high school, while Bethani has not. She's pining for her friends in Dallas.

However, strange things happen when she takes $1000 from a mother who wants her son released from jail for the murder of Ronny Gleason (the chicken grower who died). This is an engaging story with lots of action and a resourceful heroine. Great reading.
