Overall, great book in regards to how commerce and the "enlightenment" were intertwined. Several of the chapters were longwinded and the author could have made her point in fewer words (most particular the chapter on books and printing). Don't buy this if you are looking for a book that focuses on personalities or regions (Da Vinci, Florence, etc). I ordered this book thinking it was different, however, I learned a lot in the end, just not what I expected.
