At least at the beginning, it was more politics than culture. Heavy on 19th century right-wing BS, meaning nationalism and theism, with a little Pius IX thrown in. If you like the machinations of obscure 19th century French politics (which bears some resemblance to the machinations of 20th century French politics), this is the book for you.
