The title is misleading, The preacher with the gun is Chaplain Dale Lewis, who is the main character's friend and counselor .
The main character is Mitch Drummond who is a single father and a police detective. Who has neglected his 3 children since his wife left him and then died. his alcoholic mother- in- law has been "caring" for the children but she has moved out.
The kids have really been on their own,which has turned them into BRATS.
Tassie Springer has her work as nanny/housekeeper cut out for her. Only her faith kept her on the job and some very plain speaking. Tassie with God's help survives and brings about a good ending for all.
