Who knew the search for a lost princess could be so funny?
This graphic novel illustrated by Ben Templesmith follows Hatter Madigan in his quest to find the lost Princess Alyss, the future queen of Wonderland (yes, that Wonderland). In attempt to find her, Hatter seeks out the brightest instances of White Imagination, evidenced by an encompassing pure, bright glow only he and a select few can see. Though he is led astray by a few false alarms (illuminated Da Vinci paintings, a young female violinist) and has a few small occurrences of paranoia (attacking red kites thought to be henchmen of Aunt Redd), Hatter gets ever closer to the princess he's sworn to protect as he battles kidnappers, undead and Imagination-draining machines. Talk about having a bad day on Earth.
A great addition to the Looking Glass Wars series, Hatter M adds a new depth to the search for Alyss...with a few laugh-out-loud moments along the way. The illustrations are beautiful, otherworldy and use a full spectrum of eye-pleasing colors to enhance the mysteriousness of the story being told. The also-included Q&A section, along with various related finds and concept galleries, add a realism to the hunt, almost like you yourself could head to Paris and discover puddles where there shouldn't be puddles...
