Prudence Bosworth is a seamstress barely making ends meet when she learns that her father has left her millions. The catch is she won't inherit unless she is married within the year. Overnight she goes from seamstress to heiress, attending afternoon teas, the opera, and even a ball. Prudence is surprised when the Duke of St. Cyres, Rhys de Winter, speaks to her at the opera. Rhys is looking for a rich heiress to help him pay the debts that have piled up from the previous Duke. He sees Prudence as the perfect Duchess for him and the answer to his prayers.

This is a slow paced historical romance. It seemed like it took forever for the story to start moving forward. Unfortunately, when it did, the story was very predictable. I knew every move that was going to be made long before it happened. I also had a hard time with the hero in this book. He lied and manipulated the heroine for most of the story. When he suddenly decided he was in love with her, it seemed rather abrupt to me. My rating: 3 Stars.
