I liked this book because, as in a lot of Mrs. Hill's books, the heroine begins by realizing the sad circumstances her family is in, and goes about doing what she can to improve things for everyone.

The author shows us what influence a lady can have just by making the home an inviting place to be, and taking an interest in each person in the family. At first, Cornelia is sad to have to leave school, and feels very hopeless about the whole situation. She starts to do what she can, and gets everyone to finally pitch in and help.

Of course, there is a romance included in this book. If you are new to Mrs. Hill's books, the romances are very innocent and sweet, quite different than many other romance novels.

**SPOILER** The only problem with this book for me, is that in the end, Cornelia wins the heart of and marries a very wealthy man. (It is that way in many GLH books.) There is nothing wrong with ending up married at the end of a romance novel; that is usually the outcome. But many of these books end up with marriage to a very wealty man. It is even more disappointing in this novel, where the heroine has spent all this time learning to be frugal in her homekeeping and decorating.
