I have very mixed feelings about this book. I quickly became absorbed in the story and finished it in short order -- however, I did not feel rewarded by my effort. I came to care for Laurel and I did not enjoy the [Spoiler Alert!] mental deterioration that she experienced during the course of the novel. The twist at the end was especially unpleasant and I felt empty rather than fulfilled. I reread The Great Gatsby soon afterward and it is a much better book. I cannot recommend The Double Bind.
