After a year in New York City, Emma Cross has returned to Newport to cover the social scene for her newspaper. Her first day back she attends a coming out party at Ochre Court for Miss Cloe Cooper-Smith. Mrs. Goelet, the owner of Ochre Court, has pulled out all stops with the decor, including real electric lights. But things go wrong when the lights go out and the guest of honor ends up dead. When it is determined that Cleo was murdered, Emma interviews many of the guests who were at the party. She quickly discovers that Cleo was not well liked by the people at her party.

This is the sixth book in the Gilded Newport Mystery series. As usual, the author includes real historical figures as characters in her story. I enjoy that along with the description of the beautiful "summer cottages" in Newport.

Since Emma has just returned to her hometown, we have both Derrick and Jesse vying for her attention. She just can't seem to decide between them. Really, I don't think she love either of them; and I'd rather the author just give up on this storyline. This particular mystery had several suspects. I kept jumping between three that I thought could have been the killer. It was one of the better mysteries in the series.
My rating: 4.5 Stars.
