Before reading this anthology, Id never read anything by these 3 authors. Essentially, these are 3 different stories about young women becoming mail-order brides in earlier days of America.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN WEDDING (Jillian Hart) - This was a pleasant story about a young woman who arrived in the Montana Territory to become a wife, only to find that her intended had already found a wife. It seems the mother of 3 grown sons had grown nervous that her sons would be without spouses so she undertook to find suitable women for her sons to marry. Unfortunately, she forgot to mention this to her sons.

By the time Melody Pennington arrived, one son was married and another had just announced his betrothal. Only one son remained and he was the tough, ornery town marshal; Gabriel Brooks constantly reminded folks that he was not the marrying kind.

MARRIED IN MISSOURI (Carolyn Davidson) Id call this one a sleeper; the story seems straight forward and suddenly things change. Elizabeth Collins has agreed to marry a widower with 2 young sons; earlier, shed been jilted by a life-long friend who married her younger, tiny sister.

The story unfolds as Lucas Harrison and his new wife adjust to each other and life on a Missouri farm. Before long, Elizabeth gets 2 pieces of tragic news from her family in Boston, Massachusetts; life changes for Elizabeth and her 4 men.

HER ALASKAN GROOM (Kate Bridges) As soon as Sophie Grant arrived in Skagway, District of Alaska, she has to tell the groom (John Colburne) that his expected bride had changed her mind and she (Sophie) had been sent as a substitute bride.

It isnt too hard to imagine all the hurt feelings floating around on the pier, after Sophies ship docks. Understanding Johns anger over the substitute wife idea, Sophie leaves him and joins a small group of nurses, where she can ply her trade as a midwife.
