Guilty Pleasures was not the first of the Anita Blake books that I read. I somehow managed to start in the middle, but once I had, I decided that I need to start at the beginning to get the whole story - although each book can pretty much stand alone.
There are a number of things I enjoy about this series. One, there's wit and humor, some dry and some just laugh out loud funny. Anita's a tough chick with a dark sense of humor. She doesn't have all the answers and that's OK. That's one of the things I like about her. She is brave almost to the point of stupid at times, yet she's got great instinct and a strong will to survive no matter what. To put it bluntly, she's definitely the kind of friend you want with you in a bar fight because the other guy is definitely going to lose, yet, she's also the friend that is going to answer your 3:00 a.m. call for help and really be there (even if she's mad about the 3 a m part).
The Anita Blake character is definitely likable, as are a number of the other characters, and being able to read book after book and learn more and more about each character just keeps me hooked.
