PaperBackSwap.com Donates 3,500 Books To 3 Elementary Schools

Citizen's Times/ Asheville (Newspaper) - 12/21/2009 by
HENDERSONVILLE — PaperBackSwap.com has donated more than 3,500 books to be divided among three Henderson County Public Schools: Clear Creek Elementary, Dana Elementary and Upward Elementary.

The gift from the Atlanta-based company included more than 3,000 gently used books that will be placed into the teachers' classroom libraries so that students will have direct access to them. An additional 500 new books were also ordered.

All the books were delivered earlier this month.

“We are very pleased with our club members' response to this program,” said Richard Pickering, president of PaperBackSwap.com. “Access to books is crucial to foster a child's love of reading, so the books our members have donated will have a big impact on these kids' lives. We hope to be able to continue this program and help more needy schools all over the country.”

PaperBackSwap is a free online book club. People join by posting books in good condition on their bookshelf on the Web site. Two startup credits are given to start the member's swapping. Credits are earned by sending out books to other members. Any available paperback or hardcover book may be ordered for one credit.

Complete information about the online book club is available at www.paperbackswap.com.

As part of the school donation program, Books for Schools, club members may donate their unused credits to purchase a book for the school. For each unused credit donated by a member, PaperBackSwap and supporting organizations provided an additional book, giving classrooms/libraries two books for each credit donated.
