Getting the Address/Printing the PBS wrapper

This is a critical step in sending a book. If you do not access the address *from the request* you will not be able to mail the book to the correct location, or mark the book mailed. If the book is not marked mailed by the deadline, the transaction will cancel.

It's very easy to get the address from the request!

  • First, accept the request on your My Account main page, by clicking "I can mail in two days" or "I can mail later" and choosing a mailby date.
    • If there is a Requestor Conditions box on the request, you need to state that your book meets the conditions first, in order to accept the request - click (if it does meet the conditions) and then you will be able to accept the request.
  • Then view or download the address: Click on the request for the book

    • If this button is not on the request, that means you have not accepted the request yet.  Click the "I can mail" button (the mailby date will show on the button) on the request to accept it.
    • When you have accepted the request the Print Wrapper button will appear.
    • If there is a Requestor Conditions box on the request, you need to state that your book meets the conditions first, in order to accept the request - click (if it does meet the conditions) and then you will be able to accept the request.
  • This will take you to the Wrapper Settings page
    • Choose your wrapper layout at the top of the page
      • the third choice (the one at the far right) is a one page label, not a wrapper
      • it cannot be used alone to wrap a book
      • choosing the one-page label option will make another choice available below on this Wrapper Settings page: to print on a sticker (adhesive label).  You will not see the "print on a sticker" option unless you have chosen the one-page label.
    • Choose one of the options (1)  Print your Postage or (2) No extra services
      • Printable postage (with tracking) will print your postage right onto the wrapper--be sure to check the estimated weight (see below). This costs 55 cents in PBS Money plus the cost of the postage.  You do not have to add postage to your package if you print postage.
      • you do not have to have money in your PBS Money account to send a book unless you want to use Printable Postage
    • Check the estimated weight of your shipment --correct it if it is wrong
      • Packages 6 ounces or under will show suggested First Class rate, and First Class rate will print out if you use printable postage (if you want Media Mail for a package 6 ounces or under you can enter a higher weight)
      • The estimate includes a small amount of weight for packaging materials
      • If you correct the weight, the postage amount will change accordingly.
    • If you are printing on a sticker (adhesive label), you can choose this:
      • Choose "yes" next to "Are you printing on a sticker?"
      • This option will show only if you have chosen the 1-page label (the choice on the far right at the top of the page).  You cannot choose to print on a sticker if you chose one of the two-page wrappers.
      • The sticker option is sized for Avery 5126 and 8126 adhesive stickers.
    • Choose your postmark date if you are using Printable Postage:
      • It is important to choose the date properly--you need to mail the book by that date. You cannot change the postmark date after you have downloaded/printed the wrapper.
      • If you mail AFTER that date, you can go to the PO and have a new metered $0.00 strip with that day's date applied to the package.
      • See FAQs about Printable Postage for more information about this.
    • Click at the bottom of the page
      • You will see a dialog box if you chose to print postage--check the weight and postage amount because this cannot be changed after you print!
      • You will have a choice to download or open the .pdf file containing the requestor's address
        • Choose "open" and the file will be downloaded and opened; then you can print it
        • If you choose "download" you will have to double-click on the file on your desktop to open and print it.
        • If you can't download the .pdf file, click underneath Print Wrapper Now to use the "backup wrapper" link to view the address on a printable webpage
You don't have to print the wrapper; you can hand-write your address.  But you do need to download the address (or use the backup wrapper link or the Hand-Write link to view the address) in order to copy it. The "backup wrapper link" = the "click here" button to show the address in a printable webpage.
