Note from PaperBackSwap Team: read about our recent visit to Liberty Children's Home!
Liberty Foundation exists to provide care and education for abused and abandoned children in Belize, Central America.
We are a small charity with a big focus on providing high quality services for children in Belize. Our vision has always been to give children much more than just shelter and food.
Liberty Children’s Home cares for up to forty abandoned and abused children, many of whom also have HIV/AIDS and special needs. We provide an environment where children are respected, nurtured and treated as individuals. We have an excellent reputation for helping children to regain their self-esteem, to develop trust in adults and to form healthy relationships. Liberty works closely with the Belize Human Services Department and strives to ensure successful placements with foster or adoptive families, if not reunification with a family member.
Our older children attend local schools and the majority are consistently in the top ten in their class. Our pre-school school draws primarily from the child-centered educational approach of Montessori – originally developed for underprivileged children – and focuses on working with each child to develop independence, confidence and a desire to learn.
We aim to be as self sustainable as possible through growing our own vegetables and keeping pigs and chickens on campus. As well as stocking the kitchen we sell surplus produce to the local community to raise extra funds.
The creative arts are valued and encouraged at Liberty. This painting depicts toucans (Belize’s National Bird) flying over Liberty. It is the creation of one of the first boys who arrived at Liberty, who was 7 years old at the time.
We hope you will join us in our efforts for our children.
