Norview Elementary is a Pre-K4 through 5th grade elementary school that serves students in the urban Norfolk, Virginia area. They are a Title 1 school that offers 3 free meals a day to their student including dinner to anyone 18 and under.
The students and staff at Norview have worked hard increasing state test scores. They are excited to report that they have been fully accredited for the past two years.
Many of the students do not have books at home and there is no public library within the school’s neighborhoods. This means that these students only have access to books in class and through the school’s library. We are promoting independent reading with CHOICE and VOLUME of selection and teacher support through CONFERENCING. We want out students to read at least 15 minutes a day to see substantial positive gains in reading achievement. However, whether you read 15 minutes each day or two hours, the key is to read every single day.
By considering Norview Elementary for your book donation, you are not only supporting our students, but their families. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are greatly appreciated. The students will be thrilled to choose a book to keep.
