We hit our Book Credits goal!
We hit our PBS Money goal!
Semple Elementary is a title 1 school in Louisville, KY, with about 94% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. We currently enroll just over 500 students Prek-5th grade. We have recently become an ESL school, changing the dynamics even further and adding an extra dynamic of teaching struggling readers. Last year on our state assessments, only 29% of our students were proficient in Reading. This is in part due to the fact that many of the students do not have books at home to help them continue their reading practice outside of the school building.
In the past, when students have been given books to take home, they have treasured them like it was one of the best presents they've received. I know that when these students receive these books, they will be ecstatic. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they receive books that will be theirs forever!
