I enjoyed this book. Detective Huss is a compelling character whose family provides a good subplot. Good writing--or should I say translation? Of course I haven't read the original, so can't rate that, but the writing by the translator is well done. I especially appreciate that.
I'm looking forward to other books in the series, though I'm skipping the 2nd "The Torso" as it's too gruesome for me. I tried for about 30 pages and had to stop. I will read 3 and 4, though.

Ruth Rendell rarely disappoints. I liked this book alot. This is surely a sequel to a book I read many years ago. That book was chilling and this one is vintage Rendell. I do recommend it.
